Job Description
The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, recording, and controlling costs associated with business operations to support effective financial planning and decision-making. This role focuses on maintaining accurate cost records, preparing detailed reports, and ensuring cost efficiency across production, inventory, and budgeting processes. The Cost Accountant partners closely with Finance, Operations, and Management teams to optimize profitability and support strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect, analyze, and report cost data to determine product and service profitability.
Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts to support financial planning.
Monitor and reconcile inventory transactions, ensuring accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
Conduct variance analysis between actual and standard costs to identify inefficiencies or improvement opportunities.
Develop and maintain cost accounting systems, documentation, and procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Collaborate with operations and production teams to analyze labor, materials, and overhead costs.
Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes related to cost accounting and inventory valuation.
Prepare management reports highlighting cost trends, production margins, and key performance indicators.
Support audits by providing detailed cost analyses and documentation.
Recommend cost-saving initiatives and process improvements to enhance overall operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or financial analysis.
Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, GAAP, and inventory management.
Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work cross-functionally.
