Position Overview: A DoD Civilian Contractor Cybersecurity Specialist is responsible for safeguarding Department of Defense (DoD) networks, systems, and data against cyber threats. They ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity regulations, implement security measures, and respond to cyber incidents to protect national security interests. Key Responsibilities: Cybersecurity Operations & Threat Mitigation: Analyze DoD networks for security breaches and vulnerabilities. Implement and maintain cybersecurity defense measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and endpoint protection. Risk Management & Compliance: Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies, including NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, RMF, and CMMC. Assist in obtaining and maintaining Authority to Operate (ATO) for DoD systems. Incident Response & Forensics: Investigate cybersecurity incidents and coordinate response efforts to mitigate risks. Perform digital forensics and malware analysis when needed. Develop incident response plans and conduct cybersecurity training. Security Engineering & System Hardening: Configure, test, and deploy security tools to protect DoD IT environments. Implement Zero Trust Architecture and best practices for network segmentation. Assist in securing cloud environments following DoD cloud security guidelines. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain cybersecurity documentation, including System Security Plans (SSP) and security control assessments. Generate reports on cybersecurity compliance status for Government customers. Required Qualifications & Skills: Security Clearance: An Active Secret clearance is preferable (depending on project requirements). If no clearance, must have the ability to obtain one. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (or equivalent experience). Certifications (Preferred/Required): DoD 8570.01-M / 8140 Compliant Certifications: Security+ (Baseline for IAT Level II) or CISSP, CISM (for IAM Level III roles) Technical Skills: Proficiency in SIEM tools, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint security solutions. Experience with Cisco Network Switches, Windows, and cloud security (AWS, Azure, DoD cloud environment). Knowledge of DoD RMF, STIGs, NIST frameworks, and CMMC compliance. Familiarity with vulnerability scanning (Nessus, Qualys, ACAS), and other threat intelligence tools. Preferred Experience: Prior experience working as a DoD contractor or military cybersecurity capacity. Knowledge of Electronic Security Systems (ESS) security for critical infrastructure defense. Work Environment & Travel: Work will be predominantly at Huntsville office. May require occasional travel to military bases, defense agencies, or cybersecurity operations centers (CSOCs).
