SUMMARY

 

The Fabricator I (FI) performs a variety of operations to layout and fabricate a diversified line of metallic and non-metallic parts for packaging machines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

·         Layout and fabricate a diversified line of products using a variety of machines and equipment including milling, press brakes, shears and welding equipment.

 

·         Receives work order from Production control. Estimates time and material for fabrication work orders.

 

·         Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.

 

·         Sets up and operates sheet metal fabricating and forming machines to produce parts in accordance with specifications; conducts trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.

 

·         Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.

 

·         Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as bend brakes, punches, mills and routers.

 

·         Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

 

·         Perform assembly work which may involve fitting, spot welding, riveting etc.

 

·         Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.

 

·         Conducts routine maintenance on primary machine(s).

 

·         Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

 

 

Competencies Required

 

The Fabricator is able to fabricate and finish metallic and non metallic materials into parts with close tolerances. The Fabricator has knowledge of tig, mig and stick welding techniques and is able to use powered industrial trucks and hand trucks.

Education and Experience Requirements

 

High school diploma or equivalent and technical certificate in welding or machining; three years related sheet metal fabrication or machining experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings and blueprints, instructions, schedules, procedures, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports or correspondence.

 

Mathematical Skills

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Able to apply the concepts of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Deal with complex problems involving several variables.

 

Computer Skills and Abilities

 

Ability to research drawings in drawing database program. Ability to use computer software to report labor on shop orders.
