We are currently partnered with an outstanding client who are looking to add onto their team. They are a growing biotech company is seeking a hands-on Facility Operations Lead to oversee the daily execution of high-density automated vertical farming (AVF) processes for plant-based gene therapy production. This on-site role requires strong experience managing AVF systems and facility operations, with an understanding of what’s needed to support progression into clinical trials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily facility operations for automated vertical farming systems used in gene therapy vector production.
- Manage end-to-end plant lifecycle scheduling, including seeding, growth, harvesting, and processing workflows.
- Ensure optimal facility conditions and equipment functionality in a high-density controlled environment agriculture (CEA) setting.
- Collaborate closely with the CTO and Head of Research to align farming outputs with R&D and production timelines.
- Develop and optimize SOPs for plant handling, cleaning, and AVF scheduling.
- Track operational KPIs to support readiness for future clinical trials.
- Prepare for the facility's transition from R&D to GMP manufacturing by 2027; support implementation of GMP processes over time.
- Provide input on infrastructure improvements and AVF buildout strategy.
- Act as a central point of coordination for on-site teams; collaborate regularly with 10+ staff across departments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a life science, engineering, agriculture, or related field preferred but not required.
- At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience operating or building automated vertical farming systems.
- Experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences environment required.
- Strong understanding of operational requirements to support preclinical and early clinical-stage manufacturing.
- Experience managing facility operations, with demonstrated success in scheduling and process coordination.
- Exposure to GMP or regulated environments a strong plus; willingness and aptitude to grow into GMP expertise over 1–2 years is essential.
- Experience managing or mentoring team members.
