Job Description

The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing the Health & Safety program under the direction of the Health & Safety Manager. They provide on-site compliance on active jobsites to ensure our work meets the highest safety standards and that working conditions meet OSHA, HIOSH, EPA, SWPPP, and DOH requirements. The Health & Safety Coordinator will assist with job start-ups, subcontractor management, maintain filing systems and conduct safety training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implement the Health & Safety Program. Assist with the audit and revision of programs.
  2. Visit and inspect jobsites for compliance. Inspections may include but are not limited to: Fall Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Suspended and Rigid Scaffolding, General Jobsite Housekeeping and Conditions, Chemical Storage and HAZCOM, Respirator and Respiratory Protection Methods, Lead and Silica Controls, etc.
  3. Deliver Safety and Health Onboarding for new employees. Save files and update training records and matrixes.
  4. Procure and deliver consumables such as PPE and signage to various active jobsites.
  5. Manage PPE inventory.
  6. Manage subcontractor compliance on various active jobsites. Ensure AHA’s and training records are requested and on file.
  7. Manage and investigate injuries and illnesses. Document incidents thoroughly.
  8. To investigate accidents and ensure all documentation is updated.
  9. Deliver various training programs: Fall Protection, Respirator Use, Lead Safety, Silica Awareness, Scaffold User, Telehandler Operator, MEWP 3A/3B Operator, etc.
  10. Create and deliver Toolbox talks on a weekly basis.
  11. Attends site walks with Superintendents and Project Managers to identify risks on new jobs and plan appropriately.
  12. Prep Safety documentation for hand-off meetings to deliver Safety Packages to Foreman in preparation of upcoming jobs.

REQUIREMENTS

- Represents Structural Systems, Inc. professionally with a positive attitude.

- Familiarity with OSHA, HIOSH and EM 385-1-1 law and regulations

- Participates fully as a team member, completing all requirements assigned in a timely manner

- Collaborates cohesively with team members and all co-workers, displaying a positive attitude through behaviors and supportive problem solving and communication skills both orally and in writing

- Driver’s License

- High School Diploma

- Computer Skills & knowledge of Windows Operating Systems: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

- Must pass standard pre-employment physical, background, and drug screening

- Ability to obtain security clearance on Federal jobs.

Preferred Certifications / Education:

- Construction OSHA 30

- Adult First Aid, CPR, AED Training

- Board of Certified Safety Professionals: ASP or CHST

- Associate or Bachelor Degree in Safety Management

- Formal Training in OSHA Regulations: Respiratory Protection, Scaffolding, Fall Protection, etc.

- Lead Inspector / Lead Renovator

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in an office and field environment. The Health & Safety Coordinator must be able to drive to and from job sites and physically walk, climb ladders and navigate active jobsites around heavy equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

POSITION TYPE & EXPECTED WORK HOURS

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 4:00 pm, 40 hours per week. Occasional overtime may be required.

Traveling off-island within the State of Hawaii is expected for this position.
