Job Description

Mariners Church is a biblically-centered, non-denominational church located in Southern California focused on inspiring people to follow Jesus and fearlessly change the world. Mariners is listed as one of the top 20 largest churches in America by Outreach Magazine. We are a community of ordinary people from all walks of life courageously trusting God to do the extraordinary. Simply put, we trust God to do what we can’t—heal, transform, renew, forgive, provide and sustain. Through the redemption story of each believer, God is glorified, lives are changed and communities are impacted in a significant way. Come and be part of a new season of growth as Mariners Church responds to God’s call in launching new congregations.

Job Description

As we seek to launch new congregations in Southern California in the future, we are looking for a Congregation Lead Pastor who will:

  • Shepherd the flock:  Pastor, encourage, protect, and inspire your congregation to follow Jesus and fearlessly change the world. Ensure the congregation progresses through our “transformational loop” (worship services to groups to volunteering to outreach opportunities) so that the people are well-cared for, disciplined, and find joy in Jesus. Perform pastoral duties such as weddings, funerals, baptisms and coaching/counseling for those in your congregation.
  • Serve as a missionary in your city:  Be the lead missionary for your congregation in your community. Cast the vision for reaching and serving your local community. Work with the central Outreach Team to help your congregation meet needs across Southern California as well as build a customized strategy to reach your city. Develop partnerships with city and neighborhood officials as well as nearby Mariners Outreach locations.
  • Equip God’s people for ministry:  Lead and equip the staff and key leaders at the congregation to develop volunteers so that each ministry in your congregation can grow in a healthy way. Work with the central teams to provide coaching, training, and best practices for all ministries.
  • Foster generosity and stewardship:  Build a culture of generosity in your congregation. Encourage giving as an act of obedience and an expression of love for God’s church. Consistently, intentionally, and lovingly invite givers and prospective givers to take next steps in their generosity. Lead your team to wisely steward the resources entrusted to the congregation.

*Please note this congregation will not be located in Irvine, CA.
