Position: Full-Time Live-In Companion / Personal Assistant in Jersey City, NJ Schedule: Full-time, flexible schedule to be discussed based on mutual fit and the client's needs; some weeks may be under 40 hours, though 40 hours of pay will be guaranteed
Compensation: $35-$45 per hour, depending on experience
Benefits: Two weeks paid time off (PTO)

About the Role A private individual is seeking a calm, emotionally intelligent, and respectful
Live-In Companion / Personal Assistant to provide day-to-day support in a low-stimulation, peaceful home environment. This role is ideal for someone who values meaningful one-on-one work and understands how to support an independent adult with neurodivergent traits and chronic physical fatigue.
The client is a 33-year-old adult who lives independently and communicates clearly. She is high-functioning but experiences sensory sensitivities, non-linear energy levels, and occasional executive dysfunction. On some days, routine household tasks can become overwhelming due to physical fatigue or cognitive overload. This position is not medical or therapeutic in nature, but rather focused on practical assistance, companionship, and creating a calm, supportive presence.
The successful candidate will be someone who is grounded, quiet, detail-oriented, and capable of taking gentle initiative while also respecting boundaries and autonomy.
Living Accommodations This is a live-in position. The companion will be provided with a private bedroom and a semi-private bathroom within the home.
Responsibilities - Provide light household support, including tidying, laundry, dishes, and light meal preparation
- Assist with cooking as needed (the client enjoys cooking but may require help at times)
- Support with booking and coordinating household vendors or services
- Offer gentle reminders or prompting for daily routines such as hydration, medication, and rest
- Accompany the client to occasional appointments or errands as needed
- Maintain a calm, low-noise presence, especially during periods of overstimulation or fatigue
- Take initiative with simple tasks when the client does not have the bandwidth to give detailed instructions
- Communicate clearly, respectfully, and thoughtfully at all times
Ideal Candidate & Personality The ideal candidate is calm, emotionally stable, observant, and naturally respectful of personal boundaries. They are comfortable working in a quiet environment and understand the importance of low stimulation (minimal noise, soft lighting, and gentle communication). This person should be detail-oriented, intelligent, and able to adapt to changing energy levels without frustration or judgment.
A strong sense of emotional maturity, patience, and reliability is essential. The family is seeking someone who can build trust and provide consistent, steady support.
Requirements - Prior experience in a companion, personal assistant, household helper, or similar supportive role
- Experience with neurodivergent individuals is a significant plus (professional or personal experience accepted)
- Strong communication skills and respect for boundaries
- Ability to work calmly and quietly in a low-stimulation environment
- Comfortable living with one cat
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Excellent references
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications - Familiarity with neurodivergence (ASD, chronic fatigue/CFS/ME, trauma recovery, or similar)
- Experience supporting individuals with sensory sensitivities or executive functioning challenges
- Cultural sensitivity and openness; familiarity with bicultural or bilingual environments (U.S./China background is a plus)
- Naturally thoughtful, gentle, and observant communication style
