The Chesapeake Bay Dog Company, maker of the BAYDOG brand of Canine Adventure Gear, is a successful and fast-growing company in the pet industry. We are seeking to hire a Sales / Business Development professional to lead the internal sales effort.

A successful hire will play a fundamental role in achieving our ambitious customer acquisition and revenue growth objectives. He / She must be comfortable making dozens of calls per day, working with channel partners, generating interest, qualifying prospects and closing sales. This position is a B2B sales role, working with independent retailers, chains, and distributors.

Top candidates will be self-starters, exemplary leaders, have superb business acumen, a sound understanding of business and sales strategies and a love of dogs!

Responsibilities:

  • Source new sales opportunities through inbound lead follow-up and outbound cold calls and emails
  • Understand customer needs and requirements
  • Research accounts, identify key players and generate interest
  • Maintain and expand the company database of prospects and potential wholesale customers
  • Team with channel partners to build pipeline and close deals
  • Develop sales opportunities by researching and identifying potential accounts
  • Identify decision makers within targeted leads to begin sales process
  • Set up and deliver sales presentations, product/service demonstrations, and other sales actions as required
  • Support marketing efforts such as trade shows, exhibits, and other events requiring overnight travel
  • Make outbound follow-up calls to existing customers via telephone and email
  • Handle inbound, unsolicited prospect calls and convert into sales
  • Emphasize product/service features and benefits, quote prices, discuss credit terms, and prepare sales order forms and/or reports
  • Enter new customer data and update changes to existing accounts in the corporate database
  • Attend periodic sales training

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • Two to three years of direct work experience in a sales or telesales capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to convert prospects and close deals and achieve sales quotas
  • Experience in the pet industry preferred but not required
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management
  • Strong knowledge of sales principles, methods, practices, and techniques
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with customers
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Exceptional verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Self motivated, with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm
  • Ability to occasionally travel and attend sales events or exhibits
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
  • Experience with customer relationship management software
  • Experience with Excel or other spreadsheet software a plus
  • Experience with social media marketing a plus
