Job Requirements
Education
Required
• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of HRSD's Maintenance Operator or Interceptor Technician Apprenticeship Trade or a Construction journeyman certification or equivalent as determined by the Apprenticeship Committee.
Experience
Required
• Entry Level: Preference is given to candidates with experience in the utility construction trade.
• Fully qualified: Completion of an on-the-job portion of HRSD's Apprenticeship Program, or qualified Construction journeyman certification, or at least five years of experience in the utility construction trade.
• Utility construction experience as specified above will be accepted in lieu of HRSD's Maintenance Operator or Interceptor Technician Apprenticeship Program.
Desired
• Five plus years' experience within the water or wastewater utility construction industry.
• Proficiency with computers and basic MS Office applications i.e.: Word, Excel, & Outlook.
• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in constructing, repairing, and altering pumps, piping, concrete, structures, and various operational equipment.
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
Required
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license from state of residence.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) With N (Tank Vehicle) endorsement must be obtained within 30 days of appointment to the position or if having to go through CDL school must be obtained 30 days after completion date, or this may result in removal from the position and potentially employment with HRSD.
• Medical card/certification to drive a commercial vehicle.
• Must be able to attain and maintain a TWIC card and Port ID.
Desired
• HDPE Butt Fusion Certification (up to 20")
Training levels - Apprenticeship
This position is fully qualified with completion of all relevant apprenticeship trade coursework and on-the-job training skills. For those not fully qualified, please refer to the established training requirements below:
Grade 6 Fully Qualified Completion of an apprenticeship program or at least five years of experience in the water or wastewater utility construction trade
Grade 6A Successful completion of 22 academic courses and 66% of on-the-job training skills
Grade 6B Successful completion of 12 academic courses and 33% of on-the-job training skills
Grade 6C No experience
Skills and Qualification Requirements
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of construction safety standards and protocols.
• Proficiency in operating tools, machinery, or equipment specific to trade.
• Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and technical documents.
• Broad understanding of collection system components and functionality.
• Must support a diverse and inclusive work environment where differences are respected and embraced
• Must be currently authorized to work for any U.S. employer
Physical and Mental Requirements
• Must have the physical dexterity to accomplish the duties defined herein
• Must have the ability to walk, climb, stand, or bend for over 75% of the time
• Must have the ability to lift heavy loads (50 pounds)
• Must be medically certified to wear a respirator for up to 30 minutes
• Must be able to work in OSHA-designated noise environments (> 85 decibels)
• Must be able to work outdoors in hot or cold conditions as necessary
