Salary : $41,165.00 - $50,037.00 Annually Location : Globe Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 25 - 15 Department: Police Opening Date: 06/25/2025 General Purpose This is a full time, Exempt (salary) position in the Police Department, reporting to the Advocacy Director at the Copper Hills Family Advocacy Center. Grade 11 The Victim Advocate will assist at the time of a child/teen forensic interview. The Victim Advocate will assess and address the needs of the children/teens and families/ caregivers who come to the Center and also other individuals referred to the Center. The Victim Advocate will provide advocacy, safety planning, resource and referral, and education. The purpose of this position is to provide support in the daily operations of the Victim Services Unit and Family Advocacy Center and to initiate and facilitate communication in order to serve as a liaison between victims of and witnesses to crimes throughout the criminal justice process. The Victim Advocate also assists with Center operations and reporting, multidisciplinary team facilitation, trainings, and community education. Examples of Duties Advocacy Services Provides culturally specific, trauma informed, advocacy and support to suspected victims of crimes (particularly sexual assault and domestic violence). Ensures that individuals are kept informed during the investigative and legal process of a crime, while also advocating for the individuals to be treated with fairness, respect, dignity, and freedom from intimidation, harassment, and abuse throughout the criminal justice. This is achieved in the following ways: Provides professional advocacy and psychosocial support, including, but not limited to: Working with the individual/family to assess the impact of the crime. Assessing and identifying individual / family needs. Providing psychosocial information on impacts of abuse, trauma, etc. Supporting individuals/families with strategies to reduce negative impacts of victimization. Identifying available resources that would benefit an individual/family and assist with the referral process if needed. Providing follow-up contact for continued services, as needed. Coordinates cases by: Assessing and prioritizing each individual/family's needs at the time of first contact, establishing goals, and providing appropriate outreach and follow-up support for the family. Assisting individual/family in understanding the process and steps that occur during the investigation of the crime to include helping the individual/family understand the forensic interview process, medical exam, how to access mental health services, the role of detectives, and typical court proceedings. Assists in the completion of public benefits/entitlements, housing, Crime Victims Compensation, and other applications as needed. May attend court sessions with individual/family during the court process, as needed. Coordinate and work with law enforcement, the city prosecutor's office, city court, outside agencies, and victims of crime; assist victims in completing petitions for court orders, in securing protective orders, and with filing compensation claims Accompany victims to court and inform them of their constitutional and statutory mandated Crime Victims' Rights. Compile data and review related reports and correspondence related to the Victim Services Unit Coordinate with community agencies and resources on behalf of Victim Services Unit Document and manage case files Keep accurate statistical records of victim contacts Perform related duties as assigned and maintain regular attendance. Work Environment: The primary duties are performed in a public office environment and courtroom setting with some exposure to difficult and stressful personal circumstances. Advocacy Liaison Coordinate and communicate with partners to identify and refer individuals/families to the Center for victim advocacy services. Establishes and maintains contact with the multidisciplinary team, attorneys, and courts. Serves as a liaison between the individual/families, courts, attorneys and the investigating officers and/or caseworkers to provide updates on the status of the investigation of their case. Documentation & Reporting Document case information utilizing victim tracking software. Completes required reports, in an effective, timely manner. Reports information to appropriate authorities, when legally bound to do so. Completes grant tracking and reporting. Quality Completes follow-up with individuals/families who receive investigative services from the Center to ensure quality of services received. Remains current on all laws, regulations, polices, protocols, and practices surrounding physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, child abuse, neglect, and legal reporting requirements; and applies knowledge to the work in accordance with quality standards. Supports the development and documentation of victim services, identifying standards of practice, policies and procedures, and reporting requirements. Continuous Improvement, Knowledge sharing and Collaborative Problem Solving Attends training for on-going education and career development. Provides training to partner agencies or within the community as requested and appropriate. Participates and/or co-facilities multidisciplinary team, as requested and appropriate. Engages in continuous improvement efforts, as assigned. Required Qualifications Requirements Education/Experience/Knowledge/Understanding Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university in Psychology, Social Work, or related field; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of characteristics and dynamics of abuse, neglect, victim/offender cycle, substance abuse, domestic violence, and trauma, including evidence-based techniques. Knowledge of community resources with the ability to effectively network, navigate and access resources. Successfully complete a minimum of 24 hours of Victim Advocacy instruction including, but not limited to: Dynamics of abuse; Trauma-informed services; Crisis assessment and intervention; Risk assessment and safety planning; Professional ethics and boundaries; Understanding the coordinated multidisciplinary response; Assistance in accessing/obtaining victims' rights as outlined by law; Court education, support and accompaniment; and Assistance with access to treatment and other services, including protective orders, housing, public assistance, domestic violence intervention, transportation, financial assistance, interpreters, among others as determined for individual clients. A current and valid unrestricted Arizona Driver's License with clean driving record Skills Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills to include communicating clearly, effectively, tactfully, and patiently to a diverse population. Strong interpersonal skills and demeanor with the ability to build rapport and garner trust with others. Proficient in the use of a PC; in a Windows environment; in the use of the Internet; and in the use of MS Office Applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel. Abilities Ability to obtain an AZ fingerprint clearance card. Ability to work in a confidential manner, ensuring information shared with internal and external individuals in an appropriate manner. Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective professional relationships with clients including effective assessment skills using diverse techniques and methods. Ability to operate a vehicle and willingness to travel as needed. Ability to follow directions from their leadership. Ability to understand and solve problems independently when needed. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Physical Demands Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.) Be available (as needed and rarely) outside of typical work hours (for example possibly evenings or weekends).
