Major Duties and Responsibilities: Schedules and performs periodic maintenance and repairs on stationary diesel engines, to include prime movers for emergency fire system pumps and electrical power generators under the general supervision of the DOS Facilities Manager. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Maintains and repairs all stationary diesel engines for fire system pumps and emergency power generators ranging from 25 KW to 1.25 MEG. Scope of work to include repair of major diesel engine-subsystems which are not in violation of existing State Department contracts for such repairs. Repairs to be at such standard to perform in climatic extremes. Plans and schedules preventive and corrective maintenance for the equipment listed under specific responsibilities in accordance with established operational maintenance procedures and manufacture's recommendations and warranty. Tests all work performed under his/her control. In the case of the diesel prime movers of the emergency power generator sets, testing is to be conducted in the presence of one other person designated as qualified back-up personnel. Corrects defects by adjustments, cleaning, repair, and replacement of defective items and components. Maintains small engines and hydraulic systems. Operates all necessary hand, power, and shop tools. Orders replacement parts and supplies through approved channels and establishing maximum requirements for effective utilization and economy. Maintains shop and maintenance areas in a clean and safe condition. Maintains appropriate technical library and record keeping which documents all procedures necessary to accomplish his/her responsibilities. The incumbent provides escort as necessary for Locally Employed (LE) staff and other approved personnel, covers for other contract employees as necessary and performs other duties as assigned. In the case of emergency power generators sets, trains two qualified personnel to perform as emergency operation/repair back up personnel in his/her absence. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications: * Valid Certification as Diesel Powered Electrical Power Generator Technician with rating up to 1.25 MEG and three or more years' experience in that field. * Training or certification on Caterpillar Diesel generator sets is preferred. Experience on Caterpillar Diesel paralleling systems is preferred. * Experience on computer based maintenance management systems is preferred. * Must be 21 years of age, have completed secondary school or obtained a GED. * A Top Secret Clearance is required. * Must be a U.S. Citizen.
